Born and raised in Havana, Fabien spent his youth in the company of some of Cuba’s greatest musicians and artists. His ease around artists of all disciplines and generations is obvious to anyone who spends more than a few minutes walking with him past street corner musicians and poets; into local bars and clubs where some of the finest talent in all Cuba spread their joyous gifts, through artists studios, ballet practices, opera recitals and electronic music performances where the vast breadth of Cuba’s raw talent blows people’s minds. High or low, he has all ground covered!

As the youngest son of one of Cuba’s most gifted musical families “Los Terry’s,” Yunior followed the tradition and began his musical training at age seven, graduating in 1994 from the prestigious National School of Art (ENA) in Havana with a double major in violin and bass. In 1998 he attended CalArts where he continued to expand his musical horizon to include a wide variety of music and traditions from around the world.
Yunior has performed with Steve Coleman, Jerry Gonzales and Fort Apache, Lila Downs, Jeff Tain Watts, Eddie Palmieri, The late Hilton Ruiz, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Steve Turre, Jane Bunnett and his brother Yosvany Terry, among many others. Talía Bustamante was born in Old Havana in 1991. During her university studies, she worked at the Havana Film Festival, the ArteCorte Project and La Guarida Paladar. In 2014 she graduated from Journalism from the University of Havana. Since then, she has worked as a producer on NBC News, CCTV America, Habana Radio and for newspapers and advertising companies in Europe and the U.S.
In her own words: “When I work with foreigners, I always try to show a different perspective about Cuba: my love and proud perspective about the island. And my local knowledge gives me an advantage, because nothing can give a better experience than to be in touch with the culture of the Cuban daily life.”
Human connection is fundamental to our work, and we strive to provide an authentic experience. For this reason we keep our travel groups very small, no more than 8 people. The Backstage Cuba team will ensure every trip, concert, visit, and project is unforgettable. You’ll experience Havana’s art scene from the inside, like a local Habanero.
